About ERfC and Our Mission

 

ERfC has been working with the Enfield Community since 1994 providing innovative services to families and children after-school.  Our mission is to team with kids, communities, schools and families to grow resilient kids. Through innovative community collaborations, we help kids learn, reach their goals, and contribute to their communities.

 

Over 250 children in grades K-8 attend after-school activities at our Alcorn & Enfield Street Learning Center, the Barnard & Crandall Learning Center, and JFK After School.   The Learning Centers operate from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the elementary sites and from 2:30 PM until 6:00 PM at the Middle School– Monday through Fridays.

 

Available Volunteer Opportunities

 

Academic Support Volunteer

  • Homework help, tutoring, mentoring, and assistance with reading on a one-on-one basis or in small groups

 

“The Making of Technology” Volunteer

  • Assist in teaching electronics and engineering (projects include race cars, rockets, electronic games, etc.)
  • Lead activities related to hands-on science and math projects to foster interest in these areas

 

Radio/TV Studio Broadcast Volunteer (Note: Some experience in broadcasting technology preferred)

  • Aide in the broadcast of  ERfC Radio, located in the JFK Middle School
  • Help students produce commercials, advertisements, and news broadcasts at our TV studio, also located at JFK Middle School
  • Operate standard broadcasting equipment

 

Junior Achievement After-School Volunteer

  • Lead activities focused on the JA Management Game, “Dollars & $ense” which focuses on earning, sharing, saving, and spending money
  • Help children understand the basics of money and apply that understanding to their daily lives

 

Sports & Games

  • Assist our Team Leaders and coach physical games and activities (including sports, dance, and exercise activities)
  • Coach teams in basketball, soccer, golf, tennis, track and softball…or a game of your choice

 

Club Hour Volunteer (Enrichment Activities)

  • Help in activities including: arts & crafts, dance, cross stitching, comic book design, puzzles, knitting, woodworking, board games, poetry reading, music, sewing, scrap booking
  • Create, teach and share YOUR talents and passions

 

Photographer

  • Take digital pictures of special activities and events throughout the school year which will be used for press releases, advertisements, etc.

 

Volunteer Office Assistant

  • Design marketing and fundraising materials, assist with mailings, newsletters, and data entry

 

Events and Fundraising Specialist (Note: All volunteers are able to help organize and plan special events that the organization hosts)

  • Help our Volunteer Coordinator develop and implement special events and fundraising activities
  • Participate in monthly “Guys & Kids Night,” “Family Night Dinner/Activities,” and special holiday events

Become a Member of our Board of Directors

Positions are open on the ERfC Board.  Become part of the development and strategic planning of ERfC.  Positions include committees in fund development, fiscal planning, community relations, development of income-producing ventures/social enterprises, and marketing.  The Board meets quarterly with no meetings during the summertime.

 

Become an ERfC Advisory Team Member

Participate in the oversight of each Learning Center (one team for each site).  Create leadership roles for students, parents, educators, community organization representatives, and business leaders whose roles are to oversee the academic goals of the centers and to help increase collaborative efforts among organizations, individuals and businesses in the community.  Meetings are held quarterly from 3:30 – 5:00 PM.

 

Assist in our drives

  1. Program Snacks Drive: Make sandwiches and provide juice and healthy snacks.  Also lead Snack Drives in the community.  Ability to spearhead drives in collaboration with businesses or community organization.
  2. Books/Board Game/Sports Drive: Lead drives to get new board games, books, and sporting supplies (basketballs, nets, bats, stop watches, etc.)

 

Important:  Volunteering/Interning with us is flexible to meet YOUR needs as well as ours. Individuals can volunteer once a week, three times a week, or once a month.  All new volunteers will be asked for an interview.  Once placed, visits to the sites and training is provided.  Volunteer applications can be completed on-line at www.erfc.us.  For further inquires, contact ERfC at Info@erfc.us.
